Looking after our cultural inheritance is an important, complex and expensive task. Most people believe that pollution from cities and factories leads to damage happening at a faster rate than would be expected from natural weathering.

There have been many scientific studies that have examined the processes that cause damage and attempted to predict the rate at which it occurs.

There is also an enormous body of practical experience in maintenance of our heritage, which includes a great deal of information on what it costs

This information is rather fragmented, often relating to single projects on individual buildings.
The intention of REACH is to integrate this knowledge into an effective management system
