A European project to study how effectively Environmental Assessment Tools have brought about sustainable house construction.
inside of office

Work in the UK

The project will study what environmental gains can be achieved from using EcoHomes and the Green Guide for Housing Specification and how developers and different decision-making organisations, such as The Housing Corporation, English Partnerships and Regional Development Authorities use EcoHomes to implement sustainable construction in their area or on their housing stock. What lessons have been learnt.

The results from the EcoHomes assessments on the 10 selected developments will be compared with Building Regulations and or other Best Practice Guidance to try to establish what environmental savings have been achieved.

Expected results include:

  • Reduction in: CO2 and other emissions from the home, water use,  transport related CO2, ozone depleting emissions etc.
  • Increased use of timber from sustainably managed sources.
  • Use of material with a low environmental impact.
  • Increase in domestic waste recycling.
  • Limited impact, and in some cases an improvement, in ecological value.
  • More efficient use of land.
  • Improved internal environment.
Information will be collected from the EcoHomes assessment reports, assessment meetings, questionnaires, meetings with Regulatory Housings Authorities and developers.
