A European project to study how effectively Environmental Assessment Tools have brought about sustainable house construction.
inside of office Equation is a LIFE funded European project studying the role and effect that Environmental Assessment Tools have in implementing and facilitating sustainable house construction. Three countries are involved in the study: Holland, Belgium and the UK. The main project leader is SBR in Holland. The two partnering organisations are BRE in the UK and CDB in Belgium.

The tools used in the project are EcoHomes and the Green Guide to Housing Specification (UK) and EcoQuantum (Holland and Belgium).

In total 100 projects are going to be assessed – 80 in Holland, 10 in Belgium and 10 in the UK.

Overall the project is aimed at establishing a common language for a European approach to environmental assessment of homes by:

  • Piloting the methods
  • Producing case study information on the pilots
  • Engaging the stakeholders and analysing their experiences
  • Considering any policies that help to enforce environmental assessment
  • Dissemination of the results to building professionals and the EU
